Jim Brock

On August 28, 2010 Unequa (God/Creator/Great Spirit) called into Galvlati (Heaven) Jim Brock, our beloved Uka (Vice Chief) to watch from above, with all of the great chiefs, his people.

Tawodi Uletsuyasti Uka (Vice Chief Jim BraveHawk Brock) retired from the Milton Post Office where he was a familiar sight for 30 years. Community-minded, he was a former Vice President of the Santa Rosa Genealogical Society where he was instrumental in helping the group provide an excellent source of information for genealogists. Jim was also Co-Chairman of the Santa Rosa Heritage Books, Volumes 1 and 2. Before he took ill, Jim worked extremely hard to improve the Cherokee resources, at the Milton library, to ensure that genealogists had appropriate resources.

Together with Betty, his loving wife of over 32 years, they raised eight children to adulthood. Jim leaves behind seventeen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, of which he has routinely pointed to as a source of great pride.

Most people do not know it but Jim was a member of Mensa. Though, anyone who ever talked with him long knew that he was a man of extreme intelligence as well as extreme love.

Jim’s combination of experience and practical problem-solving ability made him an invaluable resource for the officers and peoples of the Tribe. There was usually never a problem that Jim could not find a solution to. Kind and gentle was he to his loving tribal family. A fierce bear to those who he felt caused harm to those he loved.

Though a little less now with his passing, the tribe is that much “more” because of Jim’s presence and stewardship. Jim will be sorely missed by all.
