James Brock (StandingPanther)
Editor of the Talking Leaves Newsletter
James Brock was born in 1960 in Chicago IL although the fine people there refuse to accept responsibility. Shortly thereafter the family moved to his mother and father's neck o' thuh woods, in Northwest FL. He was a mischievous child. Ask the Vice Chief, he can confirm this vehemently.
As a Flawda boy his entire childhood, he grew fond of beaches and the ocean. This fondness was forever squelched by the movie Jaws.
James joined the USAF at the age of 18. And with his head in the clouds (literally) he trained as, and became, an Inflight Aerial Refueling Operator. Since he refueled other planes in the air, you could say he got paid to pass gas. In this capacity he traveled the world extensively to such places as Germany, France, England, Spain, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia as well as throughout the USA. His duty station was at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA.
While at Barksdale AFB, he married one of his high school sweethearts – he had many (guffaw, snort). Nuff said. After his short stint as a pet, he happily remained single for a long, long time.
That is until he met the love of his life, Janet, via an online chat room, in 1999. It was a whirlwind romance, cuz he's good at that stuff, and since she had a much better job than he did, he moved to Kansas City to be with her. It was a big chance to take, but 10 years later, he can say that it was worth every mile to get there. He married into her family and gained two wonderful step-children, Jason and Jessica. Both are grown, slightly...odd, but lovable all the same.
This is James’ second foray into the newsletter business. He’s pretty sure that’s obvious. That’s why he begs everyone for articles, knowledge, tidbits, jokes, you name it. But, it is a labor of love as since he’s very proud to be a member of the Florida Tribe of Cherokee Indians.
Something else that he is very proud of is his name. Outside of the Tribe, he may be known as James, but to us, he is our charming and cunning Standing Panther.
